on love

Which one is more selfless, more unconditional?

The love one person feels for another, or the love a painter feels for a painting they have worked on for a long time and finally finished with satisfaction?

We know that the Creator’s love and mercy for what He creates are infinite.

And we, as created beings, can only look for examples that make it easier for us to imagine that infinity, so we may understand it a little better.

We grow closer to the people with whom we spend our resources: our time, our energy, and many other things.

We never forget the people who make us change ourselves.

So we, too, love more deeply what we put effort into, what we “create.”

Those who do the kind of work people say cannot be endured unless you love it know this well:

Even if you stop and pray for the strength to overcome its difficulties, each time, you still have to face the fact that you need to keep working.

And when success — however you define it — finally finds you, it is not surprising at all.

Then comes the work of sustaining it.

All of this shows that love, too, requires effort in the same way.
